UAB Knocks Off Alabama 1-0 in Extra Innings
REGIONS PARK - John Frost hit a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the twelfth inning to break open a scoreless contest Tuesday night and give UAB a 1-0 win over Alabama. Ivan De Jesus scored the winning run.
Both teams were handcuffed by the opposing team's pitching through 11 innings. Alabama threatened early, getting seven hits in the first four innings but was unable to get anyone around to home plate.
UAB was held hitless through six innings by Alabama's Trey Pilkington. Pilkington surrendered two hits in the seventh, but relievers Jake Hubbard and Adam Windsor took over to keep the shutout going through 11 innings.
Meanwhile, UAB used five different pitchers to hold off the Bama offense. Jacob Germany pitched a scoreless twelfth to claim the win. Nathan Kennedy was the hard-luck loser for Alabama.
Ben Moore and Jared Reaves had two hits each to lead the offense for the Crimson Tide. Frost had only one hit for the Blazers, but it was the big one. Jeff Schalk had three of UAB's six hits in the game.
The Blazers have two days off before their next contest. They travel to East Carolina in a three-game, Conference USA series this weekend.
