The Garrick McGee era of UAB football opens Saturday when the Troy Trojans visit Legion Field.

UAB fans are hoping this era will be the best in UAB history. The bar is not too high.

The Watson Brown era saw the Blazers go 62-74 and go to its only bowl game. The Neil Callaway never really got off the ground and finished with an 18-42 record in five seasons. Now it is McGee's turn to make the Blazers relevant in Conference USA and the first-year coach is pleased with the way his team has approached the season.

"I like the sacrifices that they have made so far," McGee said. "We still have a lot of work to do this week in our final preparation before the game."
