More than 30 years ago, UAB made a bold move and entered the world of collegiate athletics. Most new programs take a while to build their credibility, but UAB was on the map instantly. The university did it by hiring one of the biggest names in sports - then UCLA basketball coach Gene Bartow. At the Hall of Fame banquet, last Friday, Bartow and some other speakers recalled that historic move.
