Middle Tennessee Knocks Off UAB

Middle Tennessee used a balanced attack as six players scored nine or more points to defeat the UAB men's basketball team, 84-64, on Wednesday night at the Murphy Center.

The loss for UAB (4-5) closed out a five-game road trip, as the Blazers will return to Bartow Arena on Saturday to host South Alabama. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

The Blazers fell behind in the early goings of the game, trailing 19-7 with 13:44 remaining. Preston Purifoy came off the bench and provided a spark, scoring eight straight points, including a pair of 3-pointers to get the visiting squad back in the game.

However, MTSU (6-2) shot 50 percent in the first half, making 15 of 30 shots to hold a 43-29 cushion heading into the locker room. Raymond Cintron, who led the Blue Raiders with 13 points on the night had 11 at the half.

After intermission, MTSU continued to shoot the ball well, making 52 percent in the second half to pull away with the victory.

UAB managed to shoot only 37.3 percent for the game, making 19 of 51 shots. Jordan Swing paced the offense, scoring 13 points, marking the 11th consecutive game he has reach double figures dating back to last season.
