Road Runners Run over UAB, 52-31
After scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions, the Road Runners marched most of the field before settling for a field goal and a 17-0 lead. UAB fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and a UTSA player picked up the loose ball and ran into the end zone for their third touchdown of the period.
UAB got on the board with a field goal in the second quarter, but quarterback Austin Brown was ineffective after that. Jonathan Perry came on in relief of Brown and led the Blazers to one first-half touchdown. Still, the Road Runners built of a 38-10 halftime lead and never trailed.
UAB's new defense was still weak. UTSA scored on its first five possessions and finished the game with 523 total yards.
Jonathan Perry led the Blazer offenses. He threw for two touchdowns and 209 yards. Jamarcus "J.J." Nelson was his top receiver, grabbing one touchdown pass and 101 reception yards.
San Antonio was led by quarterback Eric Soza, who threw for two touchdowns and 235 yards while hitting 11 different receivers. He also rushed for 48 yards.
Brandon Armstrong aided in the ground game by gaining 54 yards on four carries. He also caught a 51-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
UAB dropped to 2-5 with the loss, and 1-2 in Conference USA. The Blazers return to Legion Field next Saturday to host Middle Tennessee in the annual homecoming game.
